Outstanding Volunteer of Year Award
June 30, 2005-
The Family and Children’s Trust Fund www.fact.state.va.us hosted a statewide conference and award ceremony in Richmond on June 21, 2005 to recognize volunteers and community programs that have made a difference in the lives of children and families in Virginia.
Alice King, a trained TTF Childcare Trainer volunteer was one of four volunteers representing community programs honored for outstanding efforts to prevent and treat family violence.
Ms. King has volunteered for Time to Fly Foundation for two years, serving women and children who are at risk for family violence.
The honorees represent all areas of the Commonwealth and work with families at risk of domestic violence, child abuse, neglect and sexual assault.
“Without their dedication and spirit, Virginia’s many family violence programs would be less successful. Effective local programs draw upon the resources in their communities such as the individuals being honored by the Family and Children’s Trust Fund,” said keynote speaker Dean Lynch, Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Resources.

October 30, 2002- TTF Invited To Witnesses the Signing of National Proclamation…
There Is No Excuse For Domestic Abuse!
Time To Fly Foundation (TTF) was honored to witness the President of the United States declaring and signing the proclamation of October as National Domestic Abuse Awareness month! An excerpt from the President’s statement prior to signing the declaration include: “When men and women face violence and injustice, it is important for our government to understand that oftentimes, they turn to their churches or synagogues or mosques for help -- as they should. These are places of love. They exist because of love. They are wise to do so, and our government should not fear the faith-based programs which help save lives. Matter of fact, we ought to welcome the faith-based programs into helping people who suffer. (Applause.)
Oftentimes, it requires faith to help heal a heart and to help bring a future, a bright future into some child's life. This initiative welcomes the faith-based programs all across our society. This initiative takes taxpayers' money to encourage faith-based programs to become important partners in the fight against domestic violence.
I am not the least bit hesitant to encourage our government to use federal tax money to rally the armies of compassion which exist in every society in America. We must not fear faith in America. We must welcome faith in America to help solve our problems. (Applause.)”
The President then signed the proclamation and here is an excerpt from the document: “During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I urge all Americans to join together in recommitting themselves to eliminating domestic violence and reaching out to its victims, letting them know that help is available. With dedication and vigilance, we can increase safety for thousands of our citizens and bring hope to countless Americans.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 2002 as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. I urge all Americans to become a part of the coordinated community response to domestic violence and to send the message that this crime will not be tolerated in our Nation.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day of October, in the year of our Lord two thousand two, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and twenty-seventh.
GEORGE W. BUSH
